The success of any business begins within the individual person because innovation and inspiration are born at the individual level. The potential for greatness and mindfulness is inside each person who is aware of the limitless opportunities and possibilities for co-creation and cooperation all around them. If we are able to dream big, we can achieve amazing results and extend our professional and private horizon constantely. The Harvard Business School along with INSEAD—Europe’s leading business school—have concluded from their research that the two most effective business tools for twenty-first century executives are meditation and intuition. The benefits of meditation in the workplace are cumulative; they build on one another, starting with the individual and from there, positively impacting the performance of the business as a whole.
Identification and cooperation with others is a crucial element of each blossoming coworking space. An important issuewhen working with people from different cultural backgrounds is the development of intercultural competence in order to avoid conflicts and misunderstandings. Special weekly meditation practice encourages the participants to reflect on their habits and neutralize any kind of negative influences or experiences. When they share their experiences afterwards, this creates trust and awareness about the other´s needs and helps to create a peaceful, safe and fruitful working environment. In coworking spaces we find an extremely varied international audience, and as such it is the perfect spot to learn more about a sensitive approach in communication and working methods respecting the variety of cultural backgrounds.
Meditation is a good practice to get rid of a worried mind and to relief oneself from stress. A clear mind will express clear thoughts. Clear, effective communication between the users of the coworking space is crucial to the smooth running of any businessor project. Clear communication is a result of the clarity and focus that meditation brings to the workplace, so another benefit that is „for free“.
When people from different cultures communicate with each other, they often do not share the same basic rules of communication and interaction and this is the starting point for misunderstandings or erroneous interpretation. That is why coworking-spaces can have a significant impact in creating a more peaceful society if it puts emphasis on a reflection, awareness and expression of each individual, because peace can only be achieved through understanding and acceptance of other cultures.
Of course the meditation alone is often not enough to peacefully solve eventually occuring conflicts, but it is a part of a good habit to reflect one´s own behavior and interaction with others. It is the first step of addressing problems of intercultural communication before running for a mediator.
Last but noch least the regular practice of meditation in coworking spaces can help to improve the general productivity of the whole coworking community in a space of any size or branch. By helping all coworkers at all levels deal with their stress effectively; focus more clearly on their own goals and the mission of the coworking space; and communicate clearly with the other members of the space; the productivity and contentment will improve and prosperity and abundance come as a positive side effect.
